Whatever reason for necessitating your treatment with Bactrim, try to limit how much you drink. The most intelligent behavior for you is to complete the treatment before you continue your use of ETOH. IA beer or two, or a glass of wine or two per day will not contribute to the ineffectiveness of the medication. So, tag, you’re it,
Please refrain from taking in alcohol while on antibiotic or while you are taking any other medication.
Its very technical to explain the reason why but i will try to explain it as simple as I can.
Imagine that your liver is like a sieve which selectively filters products coming into circulation from the intestine. The eyes of the sieve are able to “shrink” or expand depending on the situation. In a person taking in alcohol, the eyes of the sieve shrink so that small-sized products are able to pass while big products are retained in the liver for disposal/degradation/excretion. Let us say that the size of the antibiotic is 1 cm in diameter. In the normal liver, it can pass through the sieve easily. But when the person takes in alcohol, some of the eyes of the sieve shrink thereby selectively preventing the particles of the antibiotic from being filtered into the circulation.
Thus, the potency of the antibiotic is diminished and the desired effect of the drug will not be attained.

There is no warning saying you can’t drink alcohol and it will not decrease the effectiveness of the antibiotic.
